Our Uncle Leo is the only surviving child of Robert and Mary Frank Perry. He is my "National Treasure" who moved to Carrabelle, Florida, after the death of Alma. He aggravated me to no end when I was a "kid". I must have loved it because I always went back for more. He still has that same "mischievous gleam" in his eye and is probably stirring up mischief down in Carrabelle!

Children of John Ryan and Martha Cofield Perry

Married: December 5, 1867

There are two more letters John Ryan wrote to Mattie (Martha) before the Civil War ended. Although the writing is beautiful I know it's difficult to read so I'll type the next two before posting. Once I get this shortened version of Our Tree posted, we'll have a better understanding of our Twigs and Branches.

Children:
1. Willis T. Perry, Born: December 1869, Macon County, Alabama
2. J. N. Perry, Born: September 1870, Macon County, Alabama
3. J. E. Perry, Born: January 1872, Macon County, Alabama
4. E. Nell Perry, Born: September 1875, Macon County, Alabama
5. Oscar V. Perry, Born: July 1877, Macon County, Alabama
6. Frances L. Perry, Born:. Jan 1878, Macon County, Alabama
7. Sally R. Perry, Born: Nov 1879, Macon County, Alabama
8. Robert P. Perry, Born:, 17 August 1882, Macon County, Alabama
9. Obelia Perry, Born: September 1884, Macon County, Alabama
10. Gus Perry, Born: December 1885, Macon County, Alabama
11. Janie Perry, Born: June 1887, Macon County, Alabama

Frances or Fannie married Thomas Moore and moved to Texas.
Robert grandfather to many Perry kids, Dyson, Gilbert, Cockrell, and Gooch who are now scattered all over the country. We hope they will each share their pictures and memories with us.

Starting At This Branch

After much thought, I decided John Ryan Perry and Martha Cofield would be a good place to get this family history started. They are great-grandparents to my generation. Hopefully, some other twigs or acorns from this great tree will stub a toe on this "root" and share their memories, pictures and thoughts. So, for you real genealogists out there, be forewarned that this will not follow the rules you are accustomed to, but will skip and hop from treetop to the youngest twigs and branches.

My sister, Elaine, has put in many hours over the past twenty years digging into our family history. She has made trips through fields to remote cemeteries, been on-line through the wee hours, visited libraries and courthouses to amass an office of information. My feeble attempts to help with the task never get far without having to call her for help. This is an on-going project. You've done a beautiful job, Sisiter! Thank you!

John Ryan Perry Born: 1844 in Marion County Georgia Martha Jane Cofield Born: Dec 1848 in Macon County, Alabama
Married: December 5, 1867

The following letter dated August 30, 1863, was sent to us from our "Texas Cousin" who ran across KatDavis-1 on an internet genealogy forum. Thanks, Pat Moore! This is the first of three letters written by John Ryan to Mattie Cofield. I hope you find them as fascinating as I have. I encourage everyone to click on the link to Fran Moore's family website to see the work she has done. So get your favorite beverage, settle down and enjoy this cyber walk through history.
